Oct. 28th, 2003 11:12 amhad fun at the CookOff, sadly there were too many new people and new smells and new sounds for the bug. We had to leave earlier than I would have liked, cause he was just overwhelmed. But everyone commented on how cute he was :).
Brunch with the family on Sunday was good, I haven't had many opportunities to get to know that branch of the family. The cousins meeting for the first time was fascinating, I hope Amy and Sue got decent photos of it. Hayley is so big compared to the bug.
Had the four month checkup yesterday, complete with vaccinations. The shots were unpleasant, I suspect a lot of that was because as far as the bug was concerned those needles were two foot long and square. But, he's growing taller well. He's better than average at holding up his head, and standing. He tracks at greater distances than expected, and he's already recognizing strangers (which is way ahead of the curve). His upper body development is a little behind the curve, but I'm sure a lot of that is because he doesn't spend much time on his tummy. So we are going to be working on that.
I suspect that the guidelines for 'normal' development will be modified, as a result of the strict guideline that babies be put on their backs to sleep, and when unattended. tehy don't have as much incentive to learn to hold their heads up, and push themselves up to see what's going on. It's stil early, but I think parents will start to see that trend. Even bug, who's pretty advanced in the 'holds head up' area, doesn't do it by using his arms, he does it by arching his back. he rolled over Sunday, not by pushing himslef over with his arms, but by arching his back and throwing his weight to one side. basically, he did a shoulder roll :).
He had his first introduction to 'solid' foods last night. The texture seemd fun to mush around in his mouth, but he seemed a little confused about wht he was supposed to do with it :). So, the goal for solid foods is "swallow some of it".
He has his first day being watched by the new babysitter today. He doesn't know her that well, but he's being watched at home, so the environment will be more familiar. I figure, if I don't get a panicked phone call from her today, it was a success ;).
