I think abridged/adapted exposure is better than no exposure.

I'd qualify that - if it's a *good* adaptation, I'm all for it. I'm not into comics...er...graphic novels...but I know there are good ones out there. Is this one of those?

Speaking of graphic non-fiction, what about Maus? I also liked Persepolis, but that might appeal less to a boy teen.
