Aug. 3rd, 2009 01:29 pmBroke down and purchased the new _Hairspray_ on DVD. It was at the ghetto store, so it was about what we would have spent on initial rental + late fees (there are always late fees. Shaddup).
None of the songs are the same as the first movie.
Queen Latifah rocked.
Christopher Walken was fun, and I greatly enjoyed his chance to show off his Mad Dansin Skillz (he's actually classically trained).
Watching John Travolta singing and dancing around in size 15EEE pink pumps, in drag and a fat suit, was a sight I shall not forget for quite some time.
Overall, the storyline is much the same, but they've completely reworked the presentation. I think, on balance, I liked it enough to not regret the purchase (and I suspect it'll grow on me, with further rewatching).
