I'm around, but haven't been in a posty mood.

September Crown was Teh Awesome, with fun and sun alternating with downpour and hurting feet. The uneven ground bit J hard on Sunday night, leaving him in a painkiller-induced haze. On the upside, he's really entertaining in that state.

Good thing about September Crown: The signage getting there. This was the easiest new site to find I've encountered in 14 years. From the freeway, *every* intersection where there might be a question 'which way do I go?', there was a sign showing the answer. Kudos for that.

Meh thing: THe ground was really uneven where we were camped. Made for a lot of stumbles and a few tumbles.

Bad thing: You know, I get that we need safety watch. I *get that*. What I *DON'T* get is why the crew arranging safety watch Sunday night thought that teaming two 16 year olds with a 12 year old would produce a legitimate team? Were they thinking that adding the ages makes one teen and one adult?!?! I mean really, WTF? Oh, and then flatly stating, when the father complained about this, "Oh, we wouldn't do that." Guess what, YOU DID. What the hell were you thinking?

I'm so glad that I've retired and something like that is no longer my problem to deal with. But pairing two sixteen year olds and a 12 year old to do safety watch is just wrong.

It *almost* makes me want to come out of my short lived retirement, because of how stupid some people are.

Heh, I was camping this weekend with a number of long-standing Constables. There were comments made after this all came to light that perhaps 'we' were like the musketeers, "Disbanded", but when the call goes out, swords are pulled out of thatch roofs, doublets are pulled from the bottom of chests, fake flagstones are moved...

:D

The thing that got to me the most, is that apparently the autocrat tema had known since Thursday that they would be required by the mundane authorities to provide roving fire watch.
I don't remember hearing a *single* announcement about it. Do you?

The only announcement that I heard was on Sunday night at around 11pm when someone came into the al Khabeelah encampment and told us that if they can't get people to volunteer between midnight and 6am that the local sheriff's will provide the security at $50 an hour for every sheriff that is on site.

Yep. And when J went down to learn more, he was told that they knew about this from Thursday.

The only heraldic announcements that I heard during the rest of the event when they were looking for volunteers was for the gate.

I have a feeling that if I had offered to volunteer in the watch after they finally told people on Sunday night, and you, J, and Jade were there, you three probably would have sat on me. LOL

And speaking of Jade...I'm sure that she had a few choice words to say about all of this.

It was great seeing you this weekend!!!

I agree too, it was definitely Teh Awesome. I had so much fun, and I haven't laughed and cried this much at an event in longer than I can remember.

Such good times.

(...even with the stupidity of the Safety thing...)

Only other compliant that I had was the severe LACK of herading. There were several points in the weekend that the only reason I knew what was happening was because I had just happened to call mom on her cell phone while she was on the other side of the site.

I never once, all weekend, heard a herald that I could understand from where I was. And all weekend I was either at a major crossroad (Khabeelah or Ravensfuri camps) or right near the merchants and fighting. It was an issue.

But a GREAT weekend nonetheless.
