I wish I could remember who this was...
Jul. 31st, 2008 10:20 amI remember hearing this story and *laughing my butt off**. I just wish I could remember who I heard it from. I do remember it was someone I met throught the SCA, and they were talking about their time as an Army medic. I don't *think* it was Dame Rowan, but I could be mistaken.
So NSTTW, medic training exercise. The junior medics are getting their first dry run at a disaster scenario (IIRC, shell inside an encampment). The Seniors are gussied up as the victims, with varying levels of injury, ably assisted in pursuit of Teh Real by a rockin' stage makeup kit. It's a gruesome sight. The juniors don't know what they're getting into. So, the start whistle (or whatever signal was used) goes off, a couple of smoke bombs are set off, and the juniors are rushed into the staged scene.
Where they, almost universally, look around, and faint. Keeling over like stunned cattle. A few added variation by puking before fainting. The seniors suddenly find that their role has changed. No longer are they cast in the role of 'injury victim'. They're now "Medic assisting a fainting victim".
Apparently, the person my narrator was helping wasn't terribly comforted when he woke up, as my narrator hadn't taken the time to remove their 'head injury' makeup. The FNG opted to faint agin.
*Clearly, it grew back.

Date: 2008-07-31 06:34 pm (UTC)My bet, if it was around our crowd, would be either a) Buzzy since she runs those training things all the time, or b) Shandrea (though that would have been a couple of years ago).
Awesome.
