Sometimes, I forget how stupid we were in college.

There is a controversy raging right now, over the publication (in the Central Connecticut State University school newspaper) of an opinion piece, extolling the virtues of rape, and titled "Rape only hurts if you fight it".

Text of the article can be found here. Be aware, if this is in any way a sensitive topic for you, this WILL piss you off. Like, shriekingly, throwing things pissed off.

And the editor's response to the backlash?
"We didn't know the campus community as well as we thought we knew, and because of that that's why we're getting this backlash and we're sorry because of it,"

So, they're not sorry they *printed* the piece, they're just sorry it was poorly received. That's basically "I'm sorry I got caught."

Can I at least comfort myself with the thought that neither the author, nor the editor, will be hired by a respectable publication after graduation?

"Rape only hurts if you fight it".

Right. I wonder if the trolling author would believe such were they the subject of same?

Why can't the editor tell the writer, "sorry, but we don't publish such trolling shit."

Apparently, the editor and the author are both claiming the piece is 'satire', and that it was simply misunderstood.

Oh yeah...the "I was just joking" defense when called on stupidity.

I could tell they were trying to be funny - but oh they failed in so many ways.

And yes, I suspect they will never get hired after graduation.

1) Too many mis spellings
2) Poor style, If satire, it needs to be structured better.
3) Unpersuasive, In debate you should be able to be convincing dispite the viewpoint taken, this "article" doesn't convince.
4) Poor assumptions why would a rapist choose "An ugly woman"? You only rape ugly women?

Now my dear girl, the mischevious part of me would love to have this debate with you on the "Virtues" of rape, Just to see if I could create a convincing position. But alas, I don't think you would respet me in the morning. ;-)

I could tell they were *trying* to be funny too. However the arguments were stunning failures. It came off as something that came from a drunken conversation at a frat party. It may have sounded like a good idea when he was drunk but he wasn't smart enough to realise it wasn't after.

It's hard to be offended by something so blatantly idiotic.
