Jan. 3rd, 2007 10:40 am"They can't take away my birthday."
I've heard this comment (most commonly from military folk), pretty damn frequently. For those who haven't heard it, it translates to "How much trouble can I get in?"
And every time I hear someone say that, I remember a story told to me by a former Marine (who I knew as an Ave Rat going by Freak). So this guy's stationed on a boat that's out on WesPac. And there's another member of the Marine detachment on that ship that's an unmitigated fuckup. Dude can't do *anything* right. But no matter how bad he fucks up, he shrugs, and consoles himself with 'They can't take away my birthday'.
Until his birthday comes along. Except, it *doesn't*, cause the Captain diverts the ship 18 hours out of her way, to cross the international dateline. And take away this guy's birthday.
How bad of a fuckup does one lone marine have to be to get a Captain to take his ship (eventually) 3 days out of her way, just to punish you?

And no, 'twasn't J. *He* learned not to fuckup that badly (or at least, that consistently)before he enlisted.
