Jun. 13th, 2006 11:48 amSaturn notes: There exist, within any engine, a number of hose clamps. Turns out that hose clamps are much more effective at containing leaks if they are actually properly placed, as opposed to freely floating along the length of the hose they should be clamping off. Who knew? So, the excessive gushing of coolant that has recently accompanied any attempt to use the Saturn has been reduced to the original trickle. And I'm NEVER taking any vehicle I own to Jiffy Lube again. For anything. Ever. Oh, and we found the original coolant leak (which JL claimed they couldn't find). So, a new coolant reservoir is in my future.
And in other news, the closest I will ever be able to get to "changing the oil myself" with the Saturn will have to be 'drive to Tim's place and ask to use his jack', since the drain bolt and the filter are both at the back of the engine (compartment). Almost exactly over the front axle. And the car rides low enough that I can't *fit* under it without raising it some way. Blech.

Date: 2006-06-14 12:26 am (UTC)Actually, I'll have to see if my dad still has the set he had kicking around his former garage (he divested himself of much stuff when he sold the house and moved to a condo...).
