Date: 2006-05-18 03:39 am (UTC)And 7- Ed did. He always wanted to move here, and kept taking me on mini-vacations to Seattle. I fell in love with the city, and realized I was won over when I was bawling my eyes out in the Greyhound station (we bussed, I was terrified of driving over here) because I didn't want to go home.
As to what kept me, as quote from Douglas Coupland's "Microserfs":
(the character is describing growing up in Cour d'Alene, ID)
"It starts out young- you try not to be different just to survive- you try to be just like everyone else- anonymity becomes relexive- and then one day you wake up and you've become all those other people- the others- the something you aren't. And you wonder if you can ever be what it is you really are. Or you wonder if it's too late to find out."
I couldn't spend the rest of my life being a wimpy little scared of my own shadow Good Wife, Good Mother, Good Nurse, Good (if shallow) Catholic thinking forever I had to hide my brains, and think until the day I died I was ugly and fat. No, that's wrong. I could have. And it scared me when I spent time discovering that was not how life had to be or who I was.
