The Lion in Winter
Jun. 2nd, 2004 11:21 amTLiW is one of my favorite movies of *all* time. I can quote long sections of it. It has become a Christmas tradition at my Dad's house.
I just had an opportunity to see the new production, with Patrick Stewart and Glenn CLose. Same script, new actors/director. As I suspected, Patrick Stewart was an absolutely yummy Henry II. Glenn Close was, I must admit, better than I expected (not hard, by the way). They didn't manage to match the chemistry between O'Toole and Hepburn that personified the story for me, but they did a pretty good job never-the-less. J. has decided he prefers the new version over the original. I'm too attached to the original, but the new one wasn't bad. 2.5 stars.
