Jan. 6th, 2004 12:35 pmThis region had a short series of cold and snowy winters when I was a wee lass. Would have been about the late 70s. I can remember going ice skating on Lake Washington. But the most vivid memory of when the lake froze was watching the impromptu ice hockey games the big kids were playing.
OK, so the entire lake didn't freeze, just the (very shallow) inlets at the north end of the Arboretum. It still froze thick enough that groups of adults were out on the ice, playing hockey and teaching their kids how to ice skate.
